Towson is situated directly north of Baltimore, inside of Interstate 695, which is also known in the area as the Beltway.

Industries and Jobs
Towson’s location and proximity to several major metro markets, such as Baltimore and Washington, D.C., make the town an ideal location for both local workers and commuters alike. On average, Towson residents travel about 24 minutes to work each day.
Many residents are employed in one of the area industries, including government, military, healthcare or business. Baltimore’s port operations also see the region employ a large number of manufacturing and shipping positions.
Additionally, Towson and the surrounding areas are home to several universities, so many Towson residents are employed in the education sector.
Although drug use occurs across communities of all shapes and sizes across the country, drug use, and the rate of drug crimes, tend to be higher in communities in and around metropolitan markets.
Drug-related offenses come in many shapes and sizes. In Maryland, the most common drug crimes include possession, intent to distribute, distribution of drugs or the conspiracy to possess or distribute. Most commonly, drugs in these types of situations involve heroin, cocaine, PCP and MDMA, or ecstasy.
Although marijuana is still considered a drug, recent amendments to marijuana laws have caused marijuana possession, to a certain extent, to be a civil citation, rather than a criminal charge. However, smoking marijuana in public is still a criminal charge, and would likely be taken to court. Crimes related to drug use or distribution carry varying fines and penalties, including jail time.
