Police arrested and charged a 21-year old man who was on probation for an alleged sexual assault in a Southeast D.C. home. According to police, a woman claimed that she was attacked in her home by an unidentified assailant who she described as being lean and tall, about 6-foot-5, and wearing gray shoes with orange shoelaces.
Law enforcers arrested the suspect who apparently fit the description and wore shoes with orange shoelaces – but he was released on bond as there was little other evidence linking him to the alleged assault.
Sex Crimes in Washington and Maryland
Sex crimes in Washington are serious charges that can carry penalties of imprisonment ranging from 5 to 30 years, depending on the circumstances surrounding the crime. In Maryland, the penalties of incarceration can range from one year to life imprisonment without parole. In addition, a convicted person is required to register as a sex offender for a period of 10 years to life.
In criminal cases, it is the prosecution’s duty to prove that the person accused of a crime has committed the alleged act/s beyond a reasonable doubt. If you are charged with a sex crime such as sexual abuse, statutory rape, prostitution, or child pornography, you are entitled to a vigorous defense.
An innocent person who is wrongly charged with any such crimes needs aggressive legal representation to ensure that he or she is not punished for a crime that they did not commit. A person who committed the charged offense, too, needs aggressive legal representation.
